As of 2004, out of 72000 registered doctors with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, only about 27,000 practice in Nigeria. Dr. Biodun Ogungbo the medical director of Brain & Spine Surgery, Abuja, relocated from the UK to try and reverse this trend.
